Looking for a meaningful way to complete your community service hours? Journey House Foundation offers a structured in-kind donation program that allows individuals to earn verified service hours while directly supporting people in recovery from substance use disorder in the greater Richmond area.
Each donation kit you assemble and deliver helps stock our community pantry with the essentials our participants need as they rebuild their lives. Your time and generosity make a real difference.
How It Works
Selecting, purchasing, assembling, and delivering a donation kit is a meaningful commitment of your time. Hours are awarded per drop-off visit, not per bag. Here is how to participate:
- Download the Donation Form and complete the Volunteer Section (Forms will also be available at the drop off location)
- Choose one or more of the approved donation kit options listed below.
- Purchase all required items new and unopened.
- Assemble your kit in a single bag. If items do not fit, use a larger bag.
- Bring your completed kits and the donation form with the volunteer section completed to our pantry at 7740 Shrader Road, Suite F, Henrico, VA 23228. Drop-off hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Please do not leave kits outside, as unattended donations are not eligible for service hour credit. Donations must be delivered in the lobby with the completed form. Forms will be available in the lobby.
- Take a photo of your completed kits on-site. Your photo should show the type of donation (hygiene, bed, or food) and the number of bags.
- Email your photo and name to info@journeyhouserecovery.org. Please allow up to 72 hours to receive your verification letter.
Approved Donation Kits and Service Hours
All items must be new, unopened, and assembled in a single bag per kit type.
Hygiene Bag: 2 Hours per Drop-Off
Must Include: Deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, bar of soap, one razor
Bed Bag : 1.5 Hours per Drop-Off
Must Include: Twin bed quilt or comforter, twin fitted sheet, one pillow
Food Bag : 2 Hours per Drop-Off
Must Include: One can of meat (tuna, chicken, or beef), one can of vegetables, one box of cereal, one carton of non-refrigerated milk, one box of mac and cheese or Hamburger Helper, one package of ramen noodles, one box of spaghetti noodles, one jar of spaghetti sauce, one jar of peanut butter, jar of jelly. Non-perishable items only, please.
$25 Lyft Gift Card: 1 Hour per Drop-Off
Verification Letters
Once your drop-off is confirmed and your email is received, you will receive a signed verification letter from Journey House Foundation within 72 hours. This letter is accepted for school, probation, court, and other community service requirements.
