Billy Grantz serves as Journey House’s Transportation & Recovery Residence Support Specialist, a role that allows him to combine his passion for service with his personal connection to the recovery community.
Recovery is an important part of Billy’s own story and has helped shape who he is today. Approaching eight years in recovery, Billy is grateful for the opportunity to use his lived experience to encourage others and give back to a community that holds a special place in his heart. He is currently pursuing his Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) certification and holds a Bachelor of Science in Professional Communications from Old Dominion University, with a minor in Counseling, along with additional professional certifications.
For Billy, recovery has created opportunities to live a life of service that he once never imagined possible. Having experienced difficult seasons in his own life, he understands the importance of meeting people with hope, kindness, and encouragement. One quote that particularly resonates with him is, “Kindness is sharing your strength with someone instead of reminding them of their weakness.” That philosophy guides the way he approaches both his work and his relationships with others.
Outside of Journey House, Billy describes himself as eclectic, enjoying a wide variety of music, movies, food, and cultures. He and his wife, whom he calls his best friend, recently celebrated 17 years of marriage and 24 years together. They have two sons and share a commitment to serving others as a family, both in their local community and through mission trips in the U.S. and abroad.
Billy brings an optimistic outlook, a heart for service, and a deep belief in the possibilities that come with recovery. His goal is simple: to share hope with people facing difficult circumstances and use his own second chance to help others build theirs.
