Strengthening Families. Supporting Recovery.

About Hope at Home

Hope at Home participant family at Journey HouseRecovery doesn’t have just one path, and it doesn’t happen alone. For many, substance use disorder impacts the whole family, especially children. Hope at Home is a Journey House Foundation program that brings parents in recovery together with their children in a safe, supportive space to learn, connect, and grow. Led by Journey House Foundation Co-Founder Kimberly Braine-Tillem, this monthly gathering creates a caring environment where families can rebuild trust, strengthen bonds, and connect with other families walking a similar path. “The bond between a parent and child forms the foundation for how a child handles life’s challenges,” says Kimberly. “Hope at Home strengthens that bond and connects parents in recovery with community support.”

How Hope at Home Works

Hope at Home volunteers with children at Journey House FoundationHope at Home meets monthly (typically the 3rd Tuesday of the month) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Journey House Foundation’s center at 7740 Shrader Road, Suite F, Henrico, VA. For Parents: While children are cared for by trained volunteers, parents participate in trust-building exercises, resilience activities, and peer support discussions. Share your experiences, learn from others, and build lasting connections with parents who understand your journey. For Children: Children enjoy snacks, games, crafts, and music in a fun, supervised setting. Childcare is provided by background-checked volunteers who create a welcoming space for kids to play and connect. Registration is required for each meeting. Families receive reminder texts two weeks before each session with registration information.

The program has tripled in size since its first meeting, demonstrating the deep need for family-centered recovery support in the Richmond community.
