Whistleblower Policy  

Purpose 

The purpose of this Whistleblower Policy is to support ethical standards, compliance with laws  and regulations, and accountability in the stewardship of resources entrusted to Journey House  Foundation, (“JHF”). This policy provides a clear process for reporting concerns about suspected  misconduct, violations of law, or breaches of JHF policy, while ensuring that individuals who  raise concerns in good faith are protected from retaliation. 

Scope 

This policy applies to all directors, officers, employees, contractors, and volunteers of JHF. It  covers, but is not limited to, concerns relating to: 

  • Fraud, theft, or financial mismanagement 
  • Conflicts of interest not previously disclosed 
  • Unethical, unsafe, or unlawful conduct 
  • Violations of federal, state, or local law 
  • Retaliation against individuals who report concerns in good faith 

Policy Statement 

The Foundation encourages the prompt reporting of suspected misconduct through appropriate  internal channels. Reports may be made to the Executive Director. If the concern involves the  Executive Director, the report should be made directly to the Chair of the Board of Directors.  Retaliation of any kind against individuals who report concerns in good faith is strictly  prohibited. All reports will be handled confidentially to the extent possible, and investigations  will be conducted in a timely and fair manner. Any individual who engages in retaliation or  knowingly makes false allegations will be subject to corrective action, up to and including  termination or removal.

Procedures 

  • Filing a Report – Concerns should be reported in writing when possible and submitted to  the Executive Director. If the concern involves the Executive Director, the report should  be directed to the Chair of the Board of Directors. Anonymous reports will be accepted  but must contain sufficient detail to allow proper investigation. 
  • Acknowledgment – The individual receiving the report will acknowledge receipt within  five (5) business days. 
  • Investigation – An impartial investigation will be initiated promptly. The scope of the  investigation will depend on the nature of the concern, and may involve internal review,  consultation with outside counsel, or referral to appropriate authorities. 
  • Confidentiality – All reports and investigations will be kept confidential to the fullest  extent possible, consistent with the need to conduct an adequate investigation. Resolution – Findings will be reported to the Board of Directors. Corrective actions, if  warranted, will be implemented promptly. 

Policy Review 

This Whistleblower Policy shall be reviewed by the Governance Committee and approved by the  Board of Directors at least once every three (3) years or more frequently if required by changes  in law or best practice. Updates and revisions will be communicated to all directors, officers,  employees, and volunteers.
